Colin Spicer
Steve Vogel
Darren Wiseman
Lee Motherselle
Colin seems to be going from strength to strength with his driving improving all the time.
Steve seems to have stalled in his progress however he still pulls out the occasional gem.
Lee is still the guy to beat however he does seem to be losing his consistency lately.
Darren is enjoying his new clubs but feels he too has stalled a bit in his progress.
This was the first time the four of us have played together since returning from a fantastic time golfing in Spain. So we carried on the Spanish tradition of having a quick pint before checking in and going to our first tee.
Not quite sure if the course was what we were all expecting with it being a very open course and rolling hills. You have to pass the 10th tee before reaching the 1st and Steve nearly went for the 10th by mistake. We've all had a bit of a shakey tee off from the 1st with only Colin doing slightly better. By the time we got to the 2nd though both Colin and Lee settled nicely with both of them just missing out on a par and Steve doing ok. Darren on the other hand was still shakey and went straight into a bunker.
On the 3rd hole Colin managed to hit a bunker which was the size of a football staduim (slight exageration but only slight
The 5th hole was probably the tighest between us all as Colin managed to drive just passed a bunker (very close too) and land at the back of the green with Lee also ending up on the back of the green. Poor Steve was having a real nightmare after getting stuck in another of the courses very tricky bunkers. It was a tight thing between Colin and Lee to win this hole until Darren the dark horse snucked in to win it.
The 6th was a real strange one with Colins ball mysteriously disapearing just in the rough and Darren pulling a blinder of a chip from about 65 yrds seeing the ball hit the flag and drop in the hole. Luck or skill i'll let you be the judge
13th was another tight one with Colin and Darren neck and neck all the way with it ending a draw.
15th was probably the best shot of the day after Darren's little chip on the 6th with Lee smashing his way out of a bunker with an 8 iron to pull him straight back in the game.
Once again we were all very tired by the end of the day and this was starting to show in our play. We headed straight to the clubhouse for a refreshing pint only to find it all locked up and everyone had gone home. Had we played that slow
In summary:
Lee - Was feeling very tired and this showed in some of his play. Probably not his best day.
Colin - Seemed to settle in nicely on this course and played very well with his driving keeping the pressure on Lee all the time.
Steve - Probably his worst day and really struggled to find his previous good form. Seemed to trying to hard and not relaxing into the game.
Darren - Seems to be playing well with his irons and chipping well but has a lot of work to do teeing off with his woods.
The course was nice enough with very challenging greens and lots of large bunkers but i'm not sure any of us would be in a rush to go back there. At least in the near future.
